The Ruthless Pursuit of Affordability

 In this talk Dr. Polak will argue that the key to ending poverty is increasing smallholder prosperity. 1.1 billion people earn less than $1 a day, and 800 million live in rural areas in developing countries and make a living from small farms.<p>Because of the small size of dollar-a-day farms, increasing smallholder prosperity means increasing income from two-acre farms and quarter-acre plots, and, Dr. Polak argues, this starts with designing income-generating tools that are affordable on a dollar-a-day income.
