October Retirees

November 1, 2009 - Sandra Harlan, a member of the Industrial Relations Center administrative staff, retired on October 1 after 14 years at Caltech. Norman Lee retired on October 13 after 16 years at Caltech; he was a member of the Space Radiation Lab hardware and software maintenance staff. Gloria McShall, a member of the administrative staff in the Provost's Office, retired on October 1 after 10 years at Caltech. Terry Scott, a machinist in the physics shop, retired on October 1 after 14 years at Caltech. Deborah White retired on October 1; a member of the Industrial Relations Center administrative staff, she had been at Caltech for 12 years.

September–October Retirees

October 4, 2009 - Linda Bustos retired on September 1; an administrative assistant in Public Relations, she had been at Caltech for 10 years. Judith Goodstein, faculty associate in history, Caltech lecturer, university archivist, and former registrar (1989-2003) retired on October 1 after 41 years at Caltech. Christopher Harcourt retired on September 13 after 34 years at Caltech; he was associate director of public events. Bonnie Ludt, a Caltech Archives administrator, retired on September 30 after 45 years at Caltech. Nick Nichols, head of the Industrial Relations Center, retired on October 1 after 53 years with Caltech.

August Retirees

September 6, 2009 - Delores Lee retired on August 14 after 27 years with Caltech; she was an administrator with the Industrial Relations Center. Jose Mata, a research assistant in biology, retired on August 20; he had been at Caltech for 18 years. P. T. Narasimhan, a member of the administrative staff in biology, retired on August 15 after 20 years at Caltech. Elsa Villate retired on August 3 after 33 years with Caltech; she was an administrator with the Seismo Lab.

June–July Retirees

August 2, 2009 - Frances Comer, a member of the administrative staff for chemistry, retired on June 30 after 10 years at Caltech. Bob Gallagher retired on July 1 after 15 years at Caltech; he was a financial analyst in the Office of Technology Transfer. Victor Sanchez, who worked for the Athenaeum's kitchen services, retired on July 10 after 17 years at Caltech.

May–June Retirees

July 5, 2009 - Hector Chico, who worked in beverage services at the Athenaeum, retired on June 12 after 20 years at Caltech. Guy Colville retired on June 30 after 25 years with Caltech; he was on the staff of digital media services. Louise Foucher retired for the second time on May 30; a member of the support staff in computer science, she had been at Caltech for 13 years when she retired in 2007. She had returned for a temporary six-month staff-support position. Sonia Littlejohn, who worked for Facilities, retired on June 30; an employee of Caltech for 20 years, she had been on long-term disability. Francisco Madrigal, a member of culinary services at the Athenaeum, retired on June 15 after 29 years at Caltech. Fernando Solis retired on June 15 after 31 years at Caltech; he worked for the Athenaeum's kitchen services.

April-May Retirees

May 3, 2009 - Lillian Kremar, a member of the administrative staff in chemistry, retired on April 6 after 11 years at Caltech. Susan Lee retired on April 6 after 21 years with Caltech; she was the receptionist for the Office of Public Relations. Judith Nollar retired on April 17; the humanities and social sciences librarian in Dabney Library, she had been at Caltech for 29 years. Martha Penunuri, a member of the Athletics support staff, retired on May 1; she had been at Caltech for 26 years. Won-Kyu Rhim, a member of the professional staff in materials science, retired on April 30 after 37 years at Caltech. Donna Tomlinson retired on April 6 after 19 years with Caltech; she was the library operations administrator.

March Retirees

April 5, 2009 - Ronae Brooks, an administrator in Human Resources, retired on March 1 after 17 years at Caltech. Lue Shaw, a member of Custodial Services on long-term disability, retired on March 31; she had been with the Institute for 20 years.

April Retirees

April 5, 2009 - Retiring on April 2 were Manuel Buenaventura, a member of Dining Services, after 11 years at Caltech; Effie D'Souza, who worked in Financial Services, after 26 years; Catherine Funaro, a member of Financial Services, after 27 years; Belen Gelle, of the library-support staff, after 27 years; Beverly Gin, a member of Financial Services, after 20 years; Shady Peyvan, who worked in library circulation, after 18 years; Cecile Rose, a member of the library processing staff, after 36 years; and Gloria Vacio, a member of the Development staff, after 23 years. Rosalind Young, a member of the administrative staff in biology, retired on April 1; she had been at Caltech for 25 years.

February Retirees

March 8, 2009 - Guillermo Gomez retired on February 13 after 20 years with Caltech; he was a member of the custodial staff.

December–January Retirees

January 11, 2009 - Nian-Ming Chiu, a member of the IPAC staff, retired on December 1 after 25 years at Caltech. Glenn Hamell retired on January 5; a member of the Space Radiation Lab staff, he had worked at Caltech for 11 years.

November Retirees

December 7, 2008 - Daniel Taylor, a member of the library staff, retired on November 3 after 19 years at Caltech.

September Retirees

October 5, 2008 - Bruce Genung, a member of the Development staff, retired on September 12; he had worked at Caltech for 10 years. Jayne Sutton retired on September 30; a member of the Beckman Institute staff, she had been at Caltech for 12 years. Merle Sweet retired on September 30 after 34 years with Caltech; she worked as a member of the Palomar Observatory staff.

July Retirees

August 3, 2008 - Dian De Sha, who worked in information-technology training for Enterprise Systems and Consulting, Information Management Systems and Services, retired on July 8, after more than 20 years at Caltech. Ann Patterson retired on July 8 after 11 years with Caltech; a member of the Financial Services staff, she worked in budget-planning analysis.

June Retirees

July 6, 2008 - Alan Brothers retired on June 6 after nearly 28 years with Caltech; he was a physics research technician.

March–April Retirees

May 4, 2008 - Abdul G. Koshan, a member of the library information-services staff, retired on March 18; he had been at Caltech for 19 years. Jill Perry retired on April 30; she had been Caltech's director of media relations since 1999 and now plans to spend much more time with her family. Robert Thicksten retired on March 28 after 29 years with Caltech; a member of the professional staff, he was an administrator at Palomar Observatory.

March Retirees

April 6, 2008 - Paul Russell, a research engineer with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, retired on March 7; he had been at Caltech for 14 years.

February Retirees

March 2, 2008 - Ronald Isaacs retired on February 28 after 28 years with Caltech; he was a member of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning staff in Facilities. Maria Magdaleno retired on February 28; a custodian with Custodial Services, she had been employed by Caltech for 39 years. Doreen McDowell, a member of the administrative staff in the Beckman Laboratories of Behavioral Biology, retired on February 29; she had been at Caltech for 24 years.

January Retirees

February 3, 2008 - Michael Doyle retired on January 31; a member of the staff for facilities and trades management at Palomar Observatory, he had been employed by Caltech for 26 years. William Parker, a member of the facilities and trades management staff in Utility Plant and Campus Maintenance, retired on January 17; he had been at Caltech for 47 years.

November–January Retirees

January 13, 2008 - Irene Baldon, a member of the support staff for the Laser Interferometry Gravitational-Wave Observatory, retired on January 2 after 26 years at Caltech. Chick Lackore retired on December 3 after 38 years with Caltech; he was a member of Machining Services at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory. Ann Miguel retired on January 2; a member of the environmental science and engineering research staff, she had been at Caltech for 13 years. Robert Padilla, who worked in the paint shop, retired on January 4 after 27 years at Caltech. Dolores Page, a member of the biology support staff, retired on November 26; she had been at Caltech for 32 years.

Lynn Bryant Retires

November 4, 2007 - Lynn Bryant, senior financial analyst and senior administrator in Development and Alumni Relations, retired on October 18 after 22 years at Caltech. She will be relocating to central California and spending time with her grandchildren.

August Retirees

September 2, 2007 - Carolyn Ash retired on August 31 after 28 years at Caltech; she had been director of the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) program for the past 18 years. Calane Farmer, Bursar's Office cashier, retired on August 10 after working at Caltech for 23 years. Louise Foucher, a member of the support staff for computer science, retired on August 9; she had been at Caltech for 13 years.

June/July Retirees

July 22, 2007 - Robert Pool, director of gift planning in Development, retired on July 6 after 19 years at Caltech. Elaine Reber, director of business systems operations in Information Management Systems and Services, retired on June 4; she had been at Caltech for 10 years.

Tom Schmitt Retires

July 8, 2007 - Tom Schmitt, associate vice president for human resources, retired on June 30 after 10 years at Caltech. Known as much for his sense of fun as for his success in implementing consistent HR practices and processes across campus, Schmitt introduced annual staff galas, expanded the tradition of Service Award retrospectives covering what, for better or worse, was going on in the world the year the most senior award recipient started at Caltech, and promoted the establishment of an annual staff prize, now endowed by Caltech alum and trustee Ted Jenkins and named after Schmitt. Schmitt also took up playing the bagpipes as a hobby. He and his wife have purchased a new boat, which they will sail in the vicinity of Cape Cod.

May/June Retirees

June 3, 2007 - Sharlene Cartier, a member of the support staff in physics, retired on May 31; she had been at Caltech for 27 years. Jose Ramos, who worked as a skilled tradesman in the carpentry shop, retired on June 1 after nearly 19 years at Caltech.

February Retirees

March 11, 2007 - Violet O'Connor, who worked for Facilities Management's general administration, retired on February 9 after 29 years at Caltech. Carolyn Porter retired on February 23; a member of the support staff for the division administration of Geological and Planetary Sciences, she had been at Caltech for nearly 14 years.

January Retirees

February 4, 2007 - Mary Hoidahl, a member of the support staff for the Facilities Management Service Center, retired on January 31; she had been at Caltech for 27 years. Virginia Tormey, who worked in the acquisitions section of the Library System's Technical Processing Services, retired on January 26 after 25 years at Caltech. Susan Yamada retired on January 19; a member of the Seismo Lab's support staff, she had worked at Caltech for 30 years.

December Retirees

January 7, 2007 - Dorotea (Dottie) Chiriaco, a trust accountant in Financial Asset Accounting and Tax Compliance, retired at the end of December after 39 years at Caltech.

October Retirees

November 5, 2006 - Darryl Denning, director of performing and creative arts in Student Affairs, retired on October 2 after 28 years at Caltech. Elisa Loeffen retired on October 27; the operations manager for the Seismo Lab, she had been at Caltech for 21 years. Irene O'Bradovich, a buyer for Purchasing Services, retired on October 20 after working at Caltech for 25 years.

September Retirees

October 1, 2006 - David Spellman, stage manager for Public Events, retired on September 29; he had been at Caltech for 25 years.

June/July Retirees

August 6, 2006 - Don Caldwell, lecturer in choral music and conductor of the Men's Glee Club and the Caltech Chamber Singers, retired on June 30 after 23 years at Caltech. Eduardo Delvillar and Ana Rosa Garcia, both of Custodial Services, retired on July 7 after 13 and 28 years at Caltech, respectively. Eugene Kopan retired on July 14; he worked in applications development at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center and had been at Caltech for 29 years. Alexander Krigman, an assistant director in Campus Life, retired on June 19; he had been at Caltech for 22 years.

June Retirees

July 2, 2006 - Jose Barrios, Raquel Carrillo, Rita Gonzalez, and Guillermina Martinez, all of Custodial Services, retired on June 30 after 22, 25, 24, and 29 years at Caltech, respectively. Stan Borodinsky retired on June 8; the chief administrator for Student Affairs, he had been at Caltech for 31 years.

May Retirees

June 4, 2006 - David Guerrero, a member of the culinary-services staff at the Athenaeum, retired May 5 after 26 years at Caltech. Gary Hathaway retired May 31; a member of the Beckman Institute research-management staff, he had been at Caltech for 12 years.

April Retirees

May 7, 2006 - Andres Martinez, a beverage server at the Athenaeum, retired April 28 after 25 years at Caltech. Alan Rosenstein retired April 21; a member of the biology research staff, he had been at Caltech for 12 years.

February/March Retirees

April 2, 2006 - Sandra Estes, of the Dean of Students Office, retired March 3 after 16 years at Caltech. William McDonell retired March 31; a member of the staff in telecommunication services, he had been at Caltech for 15 years. Lloyd Roberson, a member of the facilities-system staff in Central Plant, retired February 28; he had been at Caltech for 17 years.

January/February Retirees

March 5, 2006 - Sandra Koceski retired on January 6; a member of the support staff in biology, she had been at Caltech for 28 years. Gilberto Meraz, a plumber in Facilities Management, retired on February 3; he had worked at Caltech for 35 years.

January Retirees

February 19, 2006 - Patricia Bateman, a member of the purchasing staff, retired effective January 1 after 23 years at Caltech. Carol Garland retired effective January 1. A member of the professional staff in materials science, she had been at Caltech for 19 years. Toni Itano, a member of the International Scholar Services staff, retired effective January 1. She had been at Caltech for 20 years. Dorothy Jennings retired effective January 1 after 20 years at Caltech as a member of the Public Relations staff.
