In recent years, scholars, policymakers, and the general public have expressed rising concern over the environmental sustainablility of continued growth in the Los Angeles basin.

Under the direction of the 2002-2003 Fellow William Deverell, the Haynes Foundation is pleased to sponsor this interdisciplinary symposium addressing a range of scholarly and policy issues related to growth, governance, and environmental sustainability in greater Los Angeles. Informed by the insights of scientists, social scientists, historians, policymakers, architects, developers, and activists, the symposium will provide opportunity for dialogue and discussion across many fields and perspectives.

The John Randolph and Dora Haynes Foundation supports study and research into policy issues affecting the Los Angeles region.
